Dr. Alex Kershaw is the Acting Head of PhotoMedia at the National Art School in Sydney. As an artist, scholar, and educator, he specializes in photography, video installation, and documentary film, holding a PhD from the University of California, San Diego where he focused on Art History, Theory, and Criticism.
His artistic practice involves long-term, fieldwork-based engagement with diverse communities. He focuses on mediating intercultural exchange, often turning his subjects into active participants and collaborators in the work, exploring their relationship with the natural world through performative and cinematic genres.
He has worked on a feature-length documentary film about the culture of hunting in the Northeastern United States.
