Angelica Varela

Angelica Varela is the founder, creative director, and designer of Semillas, a Chicago-based plant and floral studio. She combines her passion for plants, community, and her Mexican culture to create a welcoming space that offers custom designs, workshops, and events. She successfully navigated early business challenges to build a thriving company.

Born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, Angelica turned to caring for plants as a therapeutic practice after being laid off in 2020, which helped her manage anxiety and depression. This personal journey blossomed into her business venture. She is passionate about creating culturally rich experiences that connect people with nature.

Her favorite plant is a Jewel Orchid and her favorite flower is an Anthurium.
