Brandon is a Research Scientist at Metas AI Research (FAIR) lab in New York City, focusing on machine learning, optimization, and reinforcement learning. He earned his Ph. D. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University and a B. S. from Virginia Tech, specializing in building specialized modeling components to help add domain-specific priors to AI systems.
Outside of his primary research, Brandon is a strong advocate for open-source technology and knowledge sharing. He has authored a tutorial mini-book on amortized optimization and actively shares his work through his personal blog and publications, demonstrating a passion for educating the broader machine learning community.
He is the creator of OpenFace, a well-known open-source face recognition library he developed during his Ph. D. studies.
