Dor Akech Achiek is the Head of Settlement Services at SSI and recently became Interim CEO at Western Sydney MRC. With a Masters from UNSW and over 15 years of experience, he provides strategic leadership for programs supporting refugees and multicultural communities, informed by his lived experience.
His personal journey is central to his work. Having fled South Sudan as a child and spent nine years in a refugee camp, he is a passionate advocate for refugee rights, dignity, and meaningful participation in their own resettlement process, often sharing his story to inspire change.
After arriving in Australia, he escaped the deadly combination of chronic malaria, yellow fever, and typhoid, a turning point that saved his life.
