Grady Booch is an IBM Fellow and a pioneer in software engineering, best known for originating object-oriented design and co-creating the Unified Modeling Language (UML). A graduate of the US Air Force Academy, he has authored six books and is a key figure in the history of software architecture. People often call him a practical genius and visionary.
Outside of his primary work, Grady is a musician with a passion for unique instruments like the Celtic harp, hammered dulcimer, and bowed psaltery. He also enjoys reading, traveling, and kayaking. He pursues his work and interests from his home in Maui, Hawaii.
His current research is uniquely focused on embodied cognition, where he works with neuroscientists to develop a pattern language for the brain.
