Harlan Billings was the third-generation owner of Billings Diesel & Marine, which he grew into one of Maines most respected full-service boatyards. Considered a mechanical genius, he had deep expertise in diesel engines and was known for prioritizing service to commercial fishermen over all else, building a loyal customer base.
Born and raised in Stonington, Harlan had a lifelong connection to the sea, working in his familys herring seining operation in his youth. He chose to help his father run the boatyard over a potential Coast Guard career, laying the foundation for the companys future success now led by his daughter.
He literally moved mountains, filling a former quarry to expand the shipyard and support Maines commercial fishing fleet.
