Her extensive career includes roles as a Member of the Alberta Legislative Assembly and an Edmonton City Councillor. She holds a Masters degree in Social Work from McGill University and a Directors education certification from Rotman (ICD. D).
Outside of her professional roles, Karen is deeply engaged in her community. She has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and served on various nonprofit boards. Her Jewish heritage is a core part of her identity, influencing her lifelong commitment to social justice issues, human rights, and building a more inclusive community.
In July 2023, the City of Edmonton named a park in her honor to recognize her outstanding leadership and community spirit.
