Kirk is a citizen of the Metis Nation of Alberta and serves as the Board Chair at the Aboriginal Friendship Center of Calgary. He is deeply committed to empowering Indigenous communities through cultural reconnection and economic opportunity. In his youth, he played defense for the SAIT hockey team.
In 2023, he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal for his significant contributions to Indigenous economic development.
