Laurie Swami is the President and CEO of the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO), responsible for Canadas long-term plan for used nuclear fuel. Her 30-year career at Ontario Power Generation, culminating as SVP of Decommissioning and Nuclear Waste Management, established her expertise in nuclear operations, waste management, and environmental assessments. She holds a BSc in Engineering from Queens University and an MBA.
Laurie is a prominent advocate for the advancement of women into leadership roles, particularly within the nuclear industry and STEM fields. As a mother of two daughters, one in medicine and another in mathematics, she is a passionate role model and mentor, recognized with awards for her dedication to supporting womens careers and encouraging young girls to pursue science and technology.
She is the co-founder of Driving the Advancement of Women in Nuclear (DAWN), an initiative to remove barriers for women in the nuclear sector.
