Marcelo Nicolela

Dr. Marcelo Nicolela is the Professor and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Dalhousie University. His distinguished career is centered on glaucoma research and treatment, with a specific focus on the role of ocular blood flow and developing new diagnostic imaging techniques.

Originally from Brazil, where he completed his MD and PhD at the University of São Paulo, Dr. Nicolela is deeply committed to advancing eye care. His work is driven by a passion for understanding the complexities of glaucoma to better serve patients and prevent vision loss.

His research has led to a deeper understanding of how vascular factors contribute to the progression of glaucomatous optic neuropathy.
