Michael is an award-winning, third-generation woodworker and the owner of Roper Woodturning. He transitioned from carpentry to a passion for woodturning, which he now shares as an instructor at Red Rocks Community College and as a National Educator for Robert Sorby Tools. He holds an Associates degree in Fine Woodworking.
Inspired by the mountains above Denver where he lives, Michael creates both functional and sculptural pieces. He is passionate about using local, sustainable wood and natural finishes. He is an active member of his local woodworking community, the Front Range Woodturners, where he often gives demonstrations and shares his craft.
One of his pieces was the first woodturned artwork to be displayed in Denvers Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art.
