Osamu Motojima is a globally recognized authority in fusion science, currently serving as the President of the Future Energy Research Association. He earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Kyoto University and previously served as Director-General for the multinational ITER Organization and Japans National Institute for Fusion Science, leading major international research initiatives.
Inspired by his father, a nuclear chemist, he chose to pursue fusion as a path to contribute to world peace and humanitys future energy supply. He views the creation of the first high-temperature plasma at the Large Helical Device as the greatest moment of his research career.
For his leadership on the ITER project and contributions to Franco-Japanese cooperation, he was awarded the French Legion of Honour.
