Per-Olof Hilmer is the Chairman of the Board for Landshypotek Ekonomisk Förening, a major Swedish bank for farming and forestry. He is also a dedicated farmer, running Hilmér Lantbruk AB, a family business focused on crop cultivation, pig farming, and renewable energy production. He has a degree from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU).
He operates his multi-generational family farm in Mellerud alongside his wife, Karin, and their two sons. A strong advocate for sustainability, he has integrated biogas and wind power production into their farming operations. In 2021, he and his wife were recognized as the Entrepreneurs of the Year in their municipality.
He not only chairs a bank but also uses a straw-fired boiler on his farm to heat the local church and parish hall.
