Shamima Muslim

Shamima Muslim is the Deputy Presidential Spokesperson for Ghanas President John Dramani Mahama and an award-winning former broadcast journalist. A development communications specialist with expertise in advocacy and media skills, she is also a current law student. Her career highlights include co-hosting Ghanas 2012 Vice-Presidential debate and being a pioneering alumna of President Obamas Young African Leaders Initiative.

She is a passionate advocate for women, youth, and marginalized groups, which motivated her transition from journalism to politics. Describing herself as a "minority of a minority, " she draws on her background as a Muslim woman from the Upper West region to champion inclusion. She is a devout Muslim who believes in leading by example.

Unique fact: Shamima is the founder and convener of the Alliance for Women in Media Africa (AWMA), an organization dedicated to improving the visibility and welfare of women in the media.
