Swaroop grew up in Mysore, India, where he enjoyed playing cricket. His interest in technology was sparked not by software, but by the inner workings of computers, leading him to master assembling them and learning Linux before delving into programming during his college years.
His career in computer science began only after a friend spent a summer learning to program, which suddenly made the field seem "cool" to him.
