Talmage Egan is the Professor and Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Utah, holding the K. C. Wong Presidential Endowed Chair. An internationally recognized pioneer in total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA), his research focuses on the clinical pharmacology of anesthetics and opioids, computer-controlled drug delivery, and patient safety.
Outside of medicine, he is devoted to his family and faith, having served as a volunteer missionary and lay pastor for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His interests include coaching basketball, playing bass guitar, English literature, and Japanese conversation.
He is a key creator of Safe Sedation Training (SST), a virtual platform for training non-anesthesia professionals, and holds related patents.
