Theofanis Karaletsos is the Head of AI for Science at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, where he leads efforts to build AI-based virtual cell models. He is also the co-founder of Achira. ai, a company creating simulation models for drug discovery. A graduate of the Technical University of Munich, he has a deep background in probabilistic machine learning and has held senior roles at insitro, Meta, and Uber AI Labs.
Outside of his primary roles, Theofanis is an active angel investor and advisor for AI startups, including Studio Atelico and Windscape AI. He is deeply engaged in the AI community, contributing to open-source tools like Pyro and serving on committees for major conferences like NeurIPS, reflecting a passion for advancing the field through both research and entrepreneurship.
He is pioneering the development of virtual cells at CZI, using AI to create high-fidelity simulations of cellular systems to accelerate biomedical discovery.
