Urs Niggli

Urs Niggli is a world-renowned agricultural scientist and President of agroecology. science. With a PhD from ETH Zurich, he directed the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) for 30 years, establishing it as a global leader. He is also an Honorary Professor at the University of Kassel, focusing on sustainable food systems.

Urss passion for agriculture was sparked by the lavender fields of Provence before he attended university. He considers his current role as chairman and fundraiser for FiBL Austria a hobby, reflecting a deep personal commitment to advancing research in sustainable farming outside of his main professional activities.

He initially planned to be a sculptor but was advised he would likely spend his life making gravestones, which prompted his shift to agricultural science.
