Wayne Robert Decker is the Founder and President of The Flame Tree Initiative, dedicated to sustainable development in Africa. A Professor Emeritus at the University of Arizona with a Ph. D. from Johns Hopkins University, his work focuses on leveraging innovation and entrepreneurship to address serious public concerns and create change.
He describes himself as a non-traditional academic who is grounded in reality. He is passionate about collaborative work and enjoys partnering with the private sector, government, international organizations, and technology innovators to tackle major challenges and motivate students to address pressing public issues.
After a long academic career, he resigned his tenured professorship in 2015 to lead The Flame Tree Initiative full-time.
