He is a Cambridge-educated, qualified Russian interpreter who subsequently had a second career as Clerk for two London Livery Companies, the Painter-Stainers and the Gunmakers.
In retirement, he remains highly active in City of London civic life, serving as a Court Assistant for the Glass Sellers Company and as Past President of the Ward of Cheap Club. He is a trustee for the charity Promise Nepal, reflecting his deep personal connection to the country through his family.
He served extensively with the British Armys Brigade of Gurkhas and is married to a Nepali woman he met while serving in Hong Kong.
