Jose Oberholzer is the Chair of Visceral and Transplant Surgery at USZ and UZH, renowned for pioneering robotic-assisted organ transplants. An accomplished surgeon scientist with a Masters from Harvard, he has extensive expertise in complex abdominal surgeries, particularly liver and pancreas procedures. He previously led transplant programs at the University of Virginia and the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Outside of the operating room, Jose is a dedicated marathon runner, having completed over 25 marathons. He channels this passion into fundraising for diabetes research through the Chicago Diabetes Project, an international initiative he founded in 2004. He has lived in the US for twenty years and his two children still reside there.
He was among the first surgeons in the world to perform organ transplants using robotic assistance, and has performed over 500 such operations.
