Ludwig Schmidt is an Assistant Professor in Computer Science at Stanford University and a Member of Technical Staff at Anthropic. A PhD graduate from MIT, his research centers on the empirical foundations of machine learning, focusing on datasets, reliable generalization, and multimodality. He is a key contributor to major open-source AI projects.
His research group co-created OpenCLIP and the massive LAION-5B dataset, which contains over five billion image-text pairs used to train state-of-the-art AI models.
