Michel Rene Barnes is a distinguished Professor Emeritus of Historical Theology at Marquette University. A leading scholar in Patristic Theology, his work focuses on Augustine of Hippo, Gregory of Nyssa, and early Trinitarian doctrine. He earned his Ph. D. from the University of Toronto - University of St. Michaels College.
Outside of his academic pursuits, Michel resides in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with his family. He has been a long-standing and influential figure within the Marquette University community, where he has dedicated his career to teaching, research, and mentoring students in the field of historical theology for many years.
In recognition of his profound impact, over twenty leading scholars collaborated to publish a collection of essays in his honor.
