Michael J. Lenardo is the Chief Scientific Officer at Calico Life Sciences, where he leads the research strategy into the biology of aging. A distinguished molecular immunologist and geneticist, he previously spent over 30 years at the NIH. He earned his BA from Johns Hopkins and his MD from Washington University in St. Louis.
He is a passionate educator and mentor who has founded several prestigious international graduate programs with universities including Oxford and Cambridge. His dedication to fostering new talent is a significant part of his career. He also established a basic science award in loving memory of his brother.
For his contributions to science, he was appointed an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (O. B. E. ) by Queen Elizabeth II in 2006.
