Dr. Paul Hubbard is an Assistant Secretary at the Department of Finance and Co-Head of the AI CoLab, driving the adoption of AI within the Australian Public Service. With a PhD in Economics from The Australian National University, he has deep expertise in economic policy, public sector innovation, and the Chinese economy.
Outside of his official roles, Paul is a published author of short economics fiction and hosts the popular "Masked Economist" podcast, where he makes complex economic concepts accessible. He is also a champion for diversity and inclusion, serving as a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Co-Champion, and enjoys mentoring public service careers.
He started his "Masked Economist" show during the COVID-19 pandemic to build community among his colleagues, which has since grown to a wide public service audience.
