Timothy Springer is the Latham Family Professor at Harvard Medical School and a founder of the Institute for Protein Innovation. His career has focused on immunology, where he discovered and characterized adhesion receptors in the immune system. He earned his B. A. from the University of California, Berkeley and his Ph. D. from Harvard University.
Outside of his scientific work, he is a prominent philanthropist and an avid art collector. Together with his late wife, he assembled one of the worlds most important collections of Chinese scholars rocks and classical furniture, parts of which have been auctioned and donated.
He became a billionaire from an early $5 million seed investment in the biotechnology company Moderna.
