Tyson Yunkaporta

Tyson Yunkaporta is a Senior Research Fellow at Deakin University, where he founded the Indigenous Knowledge Systems Lab. An acclaimed author and academic with a Doctorate in Education, he applies Indigenous thinking and complexity science to address global crises, exploring solutions in sustainability, education, and systems thinking.

Belonging to the Apalech Clan, Tyson is a poet and a practitioner of traditional wood carving, a craft he integrates into his writing process. He is a public intellectual who favors "yarning"—a collective, story-based dialogue—and deliberately avoids creating a polished brand or rigid ideology from his work.

He carves the core ideas of each chapter of his books into a traditional object, which acts as a mnemonic device.
