George Scangos is a distinguished biotech executive with a PhD in Microbiology, renowned for his leadership as CEO at Vir Biotechnology, Biogen, and Exelixis. Although he retired as Virs CEO in 2023, he remains on the board, continuing to influence the industry with his extensive experience in strategic turnarounds and drug development.
A third-generation Greek American from Massachusetts, he found his passion for biology while studying at Cornell University. He is actively involved in community service, serving on the board of Life Science Cares, an organization dedicated to leveraging the resources of the biotechnology industry to help alleviate poverty.
