Hazel Barton

Her research, supported by over $7 million in funding, focuses on microbial processes in caves to develop unique technologies. She earned her PhD from the University of Colorado.
An internationally recognized caver, she actively develops training programs for the National Speleological Societys Vertical Training Commission. Her passion for exploring extreme environments directly fuels her scientific work, and she has explored some of the worlds most remote and challenging caves, blending her hobby with her professional research.
She was prominently featured in the IMAX movie "Ancient Caves, " which documented one of her scientific expeditions.
