Jody Sowell is the President and CEO of the Missouri Historical Society, an institution he has served for over 18 years, rising from an oral historian to his current role. He holds a PhD in American Studies from Saint Louis University and has a background in journalism, teaching, and developing award-winning exhibitions.
Originally from Tennessee, Jody moved to St. Louis for his doctoral studies and developed a deep affection for the city. He is passionate about using history to foster community attachment and hosts the "STL History Minute" segments on local television. He has two daughters, Savannah and Vienna.
He has overseen the development of eight of the ten most-visited exhibits in the Missouri History Museums history, including the award-winning "#1 in Civil Rights. "
