Dr. Kristen Azar is the Vice President of Quality and Performance Excellence at the Institute on Aging. A seasoned epidemiologist and registered nurse, she previously launched and led the Institute for Advancing Health Equity at Sutter Health. She holds a PhD from UCSF and a BSN from Johns Hopkins.
Outside of her leadership roles, she is a mother who is engaged in her sons school activities, reflecting on messages of peace and civil rights. She also participates in community fundraisers, such as caroling events designed to combat loneliness and social isolation among older adults in San Francisco.
She has published extensively on health equity, chronic disease management, and the social drivers of health, and is a Fellow of the American Heart Association.
