Mark Carney is the 24th Prime Minister of Canada, bringing extensive global finance experience to the role. He previously served as Governor of both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, navigating the 2008 financial crisis and Brexit. With a PhD from Oxford, his career spans private finance and climate action, including as UN Special Envoy.
Outside of his public career, Mark is an avid sportsman, having played hockey as a goalie for Harvard University and co-captained the team at Oxford. He is also an accomplished marathon runner. Raised in Edmonton by two teachers, he is married to Diana, an economist, and they have four daughters.
He was the first non-British citizen to be appointed Governor of the Bank of England since it was founded in 1694.
