Matthew Balhoff is the Department Chair for Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, where he also directs the Center for Subsurface Energy and the Environment. His expertise is in reservoir simulation, enhanced oil recovery, and carbon storage. He holds a PhD from Louisiana State University.
Outside of his academic and research roles, Matthew and his wife, Julie, share a passion for travel. They have spent the last several years exploring national parks and visiting international destinations. In his student days, his hobbies included reading, bowling, skating, and sports.
He is the recipient of the prestigious SPE Lester C. Uren Award, recognizing significant achievements in petroleum engineering technology before the age of 45.
