Michael Assante
Michael Assante was a pioneering expert in Industrial Control Systems (ICS) security, having served as Vice President & CSO at American Electric Power and as the first CSO for the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC). A distinguished U. S. Navy veteran, he was a leading voice in protecting national critical infrastructure.
Described as a dedicated mentor and patriot, Michael was an avid outdoorsman, conservationist, hunter, and angler. He was known for his integrity and ability to inspire colleagues, shaping the careers of many cybersecurity professionals. His service in the U. S. Navy was a significant part of his life and professional identity.
He spearheaded the international power sector team that assisted Ukraine in analyzing the worlds first cyberattacks to take down a power grid in 2015.
