Robert L. Zion was a distinguished landscape architect and the founding principal of Zion & Breen Associates. A Harvard graduate and U. S. Army veteran, he became a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects. His firm was renowned for designing iconic public spaces, including New York Citys Paley Park and the sculpture garden at the Museum of Modern Art.
His professional work involved collaborations with some of the most prominent architects of his time, such as I. M. Pei. Beyond his primary work in New York, his firms influence extended to major projects like Cincinnatis Riverfront Park and the grounds of the Statue of Liberty.
Unique fact: The inspiration for his career in landscape architecture came from a desire to restore a hedgerow he had accidentally destroyed while serving in the Battle of the Bulge.
