Shinjae Yoo is the Chair of the Artificial Intelligence Department and a Distinguished Scientist at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Holding a Ph. D. from Carnegie Mellon University, he leads research in applying AI and machine learning to grand scientific challenges, utilizing everything from supercomputers to quantum computers to enable new discoveries.
During his Ph. D. studies, he developed a smart Optical Character Recognition (OCR) system for Inupiaq, an endangered Alaskan language.
