A graduate of American University, she serves as Chairwoman for the Tennessee Higher Education Commission. People who have worked with her describe her as visionary, collaborative, and diligent.
Outside of her professional advocacy, Tara lives in Nashville with her husband, two children, and two dogs. She is an avid reader of historical novels and thrillers, enjoys listening to vintage jazz, and exercises almost daily. A key motivator for her work was her experience volunteering as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
In December 2025, she was a featured commencement speaker at East Tennessee State University, addressing the graduating class.
