Tariq Nayfeh, MD-PhD

Tariq Nayfeh is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacements. He holds a unique dual MD/PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois. Dr. Nayfeh is recognized for pioneering anterior hip replacement and outpatient joint replacement surgeries in the Baltimore-Washington region, and has served as Chief of Joint Replacements at MedStar Harbor Hospital.

Originally pursuing engineering like his world-renowned father, a college powerlifting injury shifted his focus to medicine. This personal experience with a severe knee injury fueled his passion for orthopedics. He grew up in southwest Virginia and speaks Arabic. Patients frequently describe him as caring, empathetic, and a surgeon who truly listens.

His PhD in Mechanical Engineering gives him a unique perspective on the biomechanics of joint replacements, a specialty he chose after his own sports injury.
