Tenzin Sonam is an Assistant Research Scientist at Emory Universitys Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-Based Ethics. His research focuses on the Social, Emotional, and Ethical (SEE) Learning program, teacher well-being, and mitigating burnout. He holds a Ph. D. in Teaching and Teacher Education from the University of Arizona.
He has a deep-seated interest in the intersection of modern science and traditional contemplative practices, stemming from his work with the "Science for Monks" initiative. This project involved bringing Western science education to Tibetan monastic communities in India, where he also acted as a translator.
Unique fact: Tenzin is a recipient of the 2020 Varela Grant from the Mind and Life Institute for his work in contemplative research.
