He is focused on modernizing policing through technology, such as drone programs and city-wide cameras, and has successfully reduced crime rates. He holds a Masters in Public Administration from Florida International University.
An aviation enthusiast and licensed pilot, Chief Jones initially had ambitions of becoming an airline pilot and flies on a weekly basis. He finds that flying requires him to be focused and present in the moment, at one with the aircraft. This passion is visible in his office, which features pictures and models of planes.
He is the first Black Chief of Police in the history of the Miami Beach Police Department.
