Alastair Sloan is the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research Collaboration at the University of Melbourne. A bioengineer with a PhD from the University of Birmingham, he has over 25 years of experience leading research in tissue engineering, regenerative biology, and oral pathology, and holds multiple leadership roles in international research associations.

Outside of his academic career, Alastair is a passionate and highly experienced freelance saxophonist with over 30 years of performing and gigging. He plays both tenor and alto sax and has been a member of jazz, pop, funk, and ska bands in the UK and Australia.

Unique fact: For nine years, he was the original sax player for 2Rude, a popular 7-piece ska band based in the UK, playing at festivals and clubs.
