Damian Maseda is the Scientific Director at the University of Pennsylvanias Institute for Immunology and Immune Health. He has extensive experience in lymphocyte biology and autoimmunity, focusing on translating basic research into clinical therapies. He earned his PhD in immunology from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and is currently seeking a new Scientific Directorship role in Melbourne, Australia.
Outside of the lab, Damian identifies as a dad and an aikidoka (a practitioner of the martial art Aikido). He is a passionate advocate for science communication, aiming to make immunology accessible to younger generations, and values building a strong, supportive community for international scientists through networking.
He previously founded a preclinical research startup in Spain focused on bone regeneration.
