Elinor K. Karlsson is a professor at UMass Chan Medical School and the Director of Vertebrate Genomics at the Broad Institute. A leading researcher in canine and feline genetics, she co-founded Darwins Ark, a nonprofit community science project that explores the genetic basis of animal health, behavior, and disease.
Outside of her primary research, Elinor is passionate about making science a collaborative conversation between pet owners and scientists. She lives with her three cats, one of which is named Hopper, and has previously mentioned owning another named Lacey. She also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Rice University, showcasing a background in the arts.
