Eric Allen is an Assistant Professor of Accounting at the University of California, Riverside, with a PhD from UC Berkeley. His research centers on corporate tax planning, particularly for startup and multinational firms, and financial statement analysis. He is also an inactive licensed CPA in California.
Outside of academia, Eric is an avid marathon runner. He creatively merges this passion with his research, studying the behavioral economics of runners to draw parallels with corporate financial reporting behaviors. He jokes that this interest helps justify his spending on race fees and shoes.
He co-authored a study comparing the tendency of marathon runners to meet round-number finishing times with the tendency of companies to report earnings just above zero.
