Ernst Veen is a highly decorated figure in the Dutch cultural sector, known for his entrepreneurial approach to museum leadership. He was the long-time director of De Nieuwe Kerk and the initiator and director of the Hermitage Amsterdam. He now advises on cultural projects through his firm Meedenker BV.
Personally, Ernst is passionate about the intersection of art and nature. This interest led him to create a book and a television series titled "Tuinen van Verwondering" (Gardens of Wonder), which explores the powerful dialogue between monumental art installations and their natural landscape.
He was the driving force behind establishing the Hermitage Amsterdam, transforming a historic building into a world-renowned museum through a major international partnership.
