Geoff Barton is the Professor of Bioinformatics and Head of Computational Biology at the University of Dundee. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, his research focuses on protein structure and function, leading to widely used software like Jalview. He earned his Ph. D. from Birkbeck, University of London.
Outside of his academic work, Geoff is a musician who writes and plays music for piano, synth, and flute, with his work available on streaming platforms. He is also a keen amateur meteorologist and has a long-term interest in photography.
He has maintained a personal weather station in Dundee since 2002 and has been interviewed on the subject by the BBC.
