Karel Sedlář leads the Bioinformatics and Systems Biology Lab at Brno University of Technology, where he earned his PhD. He specializes in computational systems modeling of non-model bacteria to uncover their potential for biotechnology, focusing on areas like biofuels and bioplastics.
Outside of his lab, Karel is a family man who credits his wifes support for his scientific success. He is passionate about advancing Czech science and draws inspiration from his academic mentors, such as Professor Stanislav Obruča, who motivated him to remain in academia.
