Maya Okawa is a Research Scientist at NTT Research and Harvards CBS-NTT Program. Holding a Ph. D. in Computer Science and a Masters in Physics, her work focuses on the "Science of AI, " using principles from experimental physics to understand the fundamental behaviors of generative AI and large language models, particularly the phenomenon of emergence.
Driven by a deep sense of curiosity, Maya enjoys the process of scientific exploration and views her research into AI as investigating a new form of "unknown intelligence. " This intellectual pursuit is a source of great personal satisfaction. Outside of her work, she enjoys traveling, having visited destinations such as the Grand Canyon.
Unique fact: Before focusing on AI, Maya worked on the ATLAS Experiment at CERN, where she performed data analysis for particle physics research.
