Mette Hjort is the Chair Professor of Film and Media and Head of Literature and Cultural Studies at The Education University of Hong Kong. An established academic in Film and Media Studies, her work is informed by an aspiration to connect communities globally, particularly through internationalization in education. She earned her BA from McGill University.
She is passionate about exploring how the creative arts can deliver public value and enhance human flourishing. Mette directs the Research Centre for Creative Arts and Public Value, which champions innovative research on arts contribution to society, including its role in health and wellbeing. She has led experiential learning projects for students in Zanzibar.
As part of her research into “cultures of care, ” she launched a project with a UK-based choir for cancer survivors who have undergone laryngectomies.
