Michael is a 40-plus-year veteran of the YMCA, currently serving as the National Director for the "Young Men Thriving" initiative. His career is dedicated to youth development, economic mobility, and community strengthening, with a particular focus on boys and young men of color. He holds a bachelors degree in human services from Columbia College.
Originally from Evanston, Illinois, Michael is a family man who lives in Charlotte with his wife, Laura; they have two grown sons. He describes himself as a Christ follower and enjoys jazz and a cappella music. He also runs a personal speaking organization focused on self-development and personal branding to address inequities.
In 2014, he was honored by the White House as a "Champion of Change" for his work in community building, diversity, and inclusion.
